Twelve injured in a grenade attack in Bujumbura

At least twelve people were injured after a grenade attack in one of the most populated suburbs Kamenge located in Bujumbura.

Burundi’s public security minister’s spokesman Pierre Nkurikiye said that the attack happened around 19:15 local time, “yesterday in Ntahangwa commune Kamenge area on 11 th Avenue on the road separating Kamenge and Cibitoke unidentified criminals launched a grenade at the bar ZIKOCHOIX.”

Mr. Nkurikiye said that investigation was launched in efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice and that one suspect was arrested linked with the attack.

This comes as the country is set to conduct its first self-financed general elections in less than two weeks’ time that will see the incumbent president Pierre Nkurunziza step aside after 15 years in the office.
