Burundian athlete Francine Niyonsaba broke the World’s 2000m in a race that took place in Croatia at 71st Boris Hanzekovic Memorial University Park on September 14, 2021.
During her last 2021 competition, Francine Niyonsaba clocked her best running record in 2,000 meters finishing the race at 5:21.56 breaking the record of Genzebe Dibaba (5:23.75) that was set in February 2017.
“What a night! I came to Zagreb with the main goal to run fast. I knew that the World record target was a big challenge for me but as I’ve already mentioned my life has been full of challenges. So this record first it’s for myself that I never gave up,” posted Francine Niyonsabaza on her Instagram.
Burundi’s president Evariste Ndayishimiye congratulated the athlete for her record run and that she made the country proud.
“On behalf of all Burundians and on my behalf, I congratulate Francine Niyonsaba because she keeps on honoring Burundi. May God bless her and keep her moving forward,” Burundi’s president Evariste Ndayishimiye twitted.
In less than a month (August 21 – September 14) Francine Niyonsaba won five trophies including Eugene in USA, Paris in France, Brussels in Belgium and Zurich in Switzerland.
