The Burundi Ministry of the Interior, Community Development and Public Security released a statement this Thursday 28 March 2024 extending the deadline of registering foreign nationals living in the country.
“Following the ever-increasing number of foreigners responding to their current census, the ministry informs all foreigners residing in Burundi in general, and refugees in particular that the period of this census is extended until Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 2:00 p.m,” part of the communique reads.
The country’s ministry of interior indicated that the registration activity is taking place at the offices of all communes of Bujumbura City Hall and at the administration offices of all provinces countrywide, for all foreigners and urban refugees.
“The Ministry of the Interior, Community Development and Public Security reiterates its request to all foreigners residing in Burundi not yet identified, to attend this census with documents allowing them to settle in Burundi. All refugees must turnup with their refugee cards,” a statement reads from the ministry.
This is not the first time the foreign census has been conducted in the country, the government in 2016 launched a census to register all foreigners in the country providing a two months deadline.
Majority of foreigners residing and working in Burundi are Asians, Congolese from DRC, Malians, Rwandese, Senegalese and Ugandans.
