Burundian government have warned party leaders and supporters over confrontation that has led to two people losing their lives and more than 60 militants arrested.
According to the Burundian government two members of the ruling party CNDD-FDD died while 18 people were left wounded country wide after one week since the campaigns kicked off last month.
“We have seen increased violence mainly by opposition members of CNL who were spreading hate speech however no one will commit crimes and go unpunished,” said the police spokesman Pierre Nkurikiye.

The 2020 election campaign is heading to the final week as political rallies have intensified ahead of the May 20th presidential elections.
As the security forces accused CNL of inciting violence and hate speech, the opposition party refuted the allegations claiming that their members have been harassed and arbitrary arrested.
“They have targeted our members especially candidates who are contesting for some positions in the upcoming elections,” said the spokesman of CNL Simon Bizimungu.
The main opposition party CNL whie addressing the press last week said that more than 200 members of the party were arrested since the beginning of the campaign.
