Ndayishimiye: Common market will make us stronger

Burundi president Evariste Ndayishimiye and the current chair of the East African Community Heads of State Summit called on member states to fully implement the protocols establishing the EAC if the bloc is to become united and economically independent.

While addressing the crowds in Kampala at Kololo as Uganda celebrated 60 years of independence, president Ndayishimiye emphasized on the region’s market.

“We can only be strong when we come together…it is high time we strengthen our regional integration and build a more prosperous and powerful community,” said the Burundi president.

Mid this year, Burundi president Evariste Ndayishimiye took over the chairmanship of the EAC heads of state summit from his counterpart from Kenya the former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Chair of the Heads of State summit during his visit in Kampala called for the private sector to invest in the region in efforts to create a stronger regional market.

Investors from Uganda are expected to visit Burundi in the coming months, they are expected to explore the opportunities in Burundi specifically to support and increase the production of sugar.
