Burundi president vows for economic reforms, double digit growth

 Burundi president Evariste Ndayihsimiye during a retreat with senior executives and state executives that took place last weekend, the president vowed for economic reforms that will see the country’s economic growth hit double digits by 2024.

“In response to concerns submitted by senior executives of the state regarding the opacity of public procurement procedures in the country the president announced several economic, administrative and territorial reforms ahead,” a tweet reads from the Burundi State House.

“Having set the objective of government action at double-digit economic growth by 2024, the Head of State said that each civil servant will henceforth be bound by a performance contract through the signature of a specific code of ethics,” a statement reads from the State House.

This comes as Burundi is trying to recover from the economic sanctions imposed by European Union and United States of America that were lifted early this year.

Economic analysts have predicted the country’s economy to grow due to the fact that the country will be able to earn foreign currency, the country had since 2015 experienced foreign currency shortage that had negatively impacted the coutnry’s economy.

With the Burundi president aiming to improve the country’s economy to double digit growth by 2024, the government had for recently engaged its citizens in farming and raring that contributes more than 90 percent of the country’s economy.
