Burundi’s Inter Star football club will lock horns with their bitter rivals Vital’o in a friendly game that will be welcoming football fans to the stadium after being suspended due to the outbreak of the pandemic.
A friendly game between the two national football club giants is expected to take place on January 2, 2022, in response to the atmosphere and vibe during the matches, Ndundi Team All Business Agency will be organising a friendly game yet a Derby between Vital’o and Interstar to return fans at Intwari stadium in Bujumbura.
“As fans do not come to watch matches at Intwari Stadium…we are organising this friendly game to revitalise football in Bujumbura. This is just a starting point of the process of returning fans at Intwari Stadium,” said Dr. Jean Claude Majambere the events manager of Ndundi Team All Business Agency.
“We cannot wait to go to Intwari Stadium by Sunday 2 January because there will be a lot of surprises.” Says Irankunda Jules an Inter Star supporter.
“I am super excited, yet short of words but all I can say much respect to the organizers of this game,” said Iradukunda.
“We do not take for granted this match. We are rather preparing ourselves as we used to during previous derbies before,” Vital’o football club fan Icimpaye Abdoul said.
Intar Star’s fans believe that their club has got a mileage and an advantage over their rivals to win Sunday’s friendly game in Bujumbura.
According to Abdoul Icimpaye a Vital’o football club fan, his team will give it all so as not to lose against a Second division Inter Star while.
“We want Vital’o to win with more than one goal. We do not want history of Vital’o losing against Inter Star while it was in a second division,” said one of the football fans in Bujumbura.
The Vital’o and Inter Star’s rivalry began when BRARUDI decided to sponsor both teams in 1975.
It reached its peak in 1992 when Vital’o played the final of the current confederation cup while Inter Star became semi-finalist of the current champions League in 1991.
According to last year’s Primus League, in the previous twenty confrontations Vital’o won 12 games, while Inter Star won 3 games and 4 draws, according to the classification of Burundi’s league A, Vital’o took the 7th place with 44 points while Inter Star sits at the 14th place with 31 points.
