The U.S. Embassy in Burundi last week donated Personal Protective Equipment composed of critical medical supplies and personal protective equipment to assist frontline health workers in Burundi in the fight against COVID-19.
In its statement, the embassy said that USAFRICOM provided the funding to purchase the supplies which includes 360 cases of face shields, 2400 medical gowns, 3600 medical protective goggles, 4000 medical caps, 800 medical hoods, and 3600 plastic aprons.
“This donation of medical supplies, and the cooperative delivery between USAFRICOM and the Ministry of Health, are an occasion to show the support of the United States toward the people of Burundi, and to all health care workers during this battle of a global pandemic,” a statement read from the embassy.
The donation is estimated to be worth $300,000 to support medical professionals and patients at Prince Louis Rwagasore Clinic, Kira Hospital, Military Hospital of Kamenge, and Red Cross Burundi.
Burundi government has since earlier this month imposed more strict measures to curb the spread of covid-19 which includes closure of borders, mass testing, social distancing and closure of night clubs country wide.
According to the Burundian government the total COVID-19 cases as of January 18th, 2021 stands at 1236, 2 fatalities, 2461 active cases while 773 are said to have recovered from the virus.
