Three people were last Sunday sentenced for 30 years in prison for pelting stones to the President Evariste Ndayishimiye’s convoy in Kanyanza province located in the northern part of the country.
According to the high court in Kayanza the accused were charged for breaching the public security and conspiracy against the president of the republic.
Two of the convicted work at Engen petrol station where the incident happened, the prosecutor’s requisitions accused the defendants of complicity with the stone throwers while the presidential convoy passed by the town in kayanza province.
While defending themselves, the accused denied seeing any person throwing stones to the president’s convoy and that they were on their daily duties at the fuel station.
They were ipso facto inflicted with a prison sentence of 30 years after having deliberated the trial by re-qualifying the nature of the offense and accusing them of attempting and conspiring against the Burundian president Evariste Ndayishimiye.
