All the football matches which were slated to be played in the Intwari stadium in Bujumbura will from this month be held behind closed as a measure to protect players and officials.
According to the Burundi Football Federation (FFB) the decision came after an incident during the Presidential Cup semi-final first leg that was played in Bujumbura on May 26th. 2020.
FFB said that football fans invaded the pitch to celebrate with players after a goalless draw between Interstars and Musongati FC.
The current FFB measure will be implemented only in Intwari stadium, however such measures would be imposed on each and every stadium including, Gitega, Makamba and Cibitoke if the fans are reported to have invaded the football pitch.
The second leg between Inter stars and Musongati FC will be held in Ingoma stadium located in Gitega on June 7, 2020.
