Burundi’s ruling party Secretary General Evariste Ndayishimiye was declared Monday 25th May 2020 the winner of presidential race in a landslide victory as he bagged 68 percent of the votes against 24% of the leading opposition leader Agathon Rwasa.
The provisional result declared Gen. Evariste Ndayishimiye the president elect who is set to take over the office from his close friend president Pierre Nkurunziza who has been in power for 15 years.
In legislative elections out of 100 seats the ruling party secured 71 while CNL got 27, and Uprona 1.
According to Mr Pierre Claver Kazihise the Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) the municipal winners will be announced in their respective provinces.
In his speech, Mr Kazihise congratulated all parties who contributed to the self-funded elections.
Earlier on after the general elections that took place on 20th May, Burundi’s leading opposition leader Agathon Rwasa cried foul claiming there was fraud attempt in the vote counting.
Burundi’s ombudsman Edouard Nduwimana after the announcement of the provisional results weighed in and congratulated the winner and called on the political leaders to accept the votes casted by Burundians. Nduwimana also called unsatisfied parties to reach out adjudicative institution rather than compromising the security of the country.
Since the Independence Day 58 years on Burundi will experience a first ever democratic and peaceful transition of power, the new president elect Evariste Ndayishimiye is the current General Secretary of the ruling party CNDD-FDD is expected to rule the country for a seven years starting from August 2020.
In my view, Let me just say congratulations to the Winner. Honestly speaking, in such race or completion we can’t all be satisfied but I believe that this is the will of the heavens, therefore we have to accept it even though it is not match our will or wish.
If we can get peace that’s could be enough cz the development if the country depends upon what you are doing and your contributions to our country.
You and I can do it and make our country better no matter what.
